Serbia 0 Ghana 1 (13th June, 2010)

An interesting clash between two of the tournament’s dark horses. The first half was entertaining with lots of end to end football. Unfortunately, none of the attractive play resulted in a goal. Ghana did a lot of attacking but found it difficult to get past Serbia’s rock-solid defense. Serbia failed to take their chances. They tried to get the ball in the air to their 2-metre-tall striker Nikola Zigic but their efforts rarely worked. He was substituted after 70 minutes. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first. Ghana looked more likely to score but could not get past Serbia’s defenders. All that changed with six minutes to go. Serbian substitute Kuzmanovic handled in his own area to give Ghana a penalty. Ghana’s Gyan sent the keeper the wrong way to seal his team’s win.
