Portugal 7 North Korea 0 (21st June, 2010)

Portugal turned on the style in Cape Town to demolish North Korea 7-0. The first half was evenly matched. The Koreans had more of the possession but Raul Meireles scored in the 29th minute to give his team a 1-0 half-time lead. The Koreans probably thought they could get back into this game after the break. Portugal had different ideas. They put on a wonderful display of flowing, attacking football to bombard North Korea’s goal. Simao, Hugo Almeida and Tiago all found the net soon after the break to end the match as a contest. The Koreans never gave up but three more goals from Liedson, Chistiano Ronaldo and Tiago (his second) in the final ten minutes showed the difference in quality between the two teams. It was Ronaldo’s first international goal in two years.
