Germany 0 Spain 1 (7th July, 2010)

Spain booked their place in their first ever World Cup final by beating Germany in a thrilling match in Durban. The 1-0 score line does not reflect how Spain dominated the Germans throughout the game. Their trademark one-touch football was classy and entertaining. It’s a shame their skill and continued efforts to score were not matched by more goals. The only goal of the game came with 17 minutes remaining. It was a powerful header by defender Carles Puyol from a Spain corner. The ball blasted into the back of the net so quickly Puyol must have used all his neck muscles to the max. Germany had a few chances but were largely left chasing the ball. Every time they got possession, Spanish players were quick to close them down and get the ball back. Spain meet the Netherlands in Sunday’s final. Neither team has won the trophy before.
