Argentina 0 Germany 4 (3rd July, 2010)

Germany totally dominated Maradona’s Argentina and sent a message to anyone left in the tournament they mean business. Germany played fantastically well as a team against Messi, Tevez and the other Argentine superstars who seemed lost for most of the match. Thomas Mueller opened the scoring, heading in a free-kick after just three minutes. Argentina had little in reply for the whole of the match, rarely testing the German ‘keeper. Miroslav Klose tapped in Germany’s second from close range to get his 50th goal on his 100th German appearance. Germany’s third came after a fantastic weaving run through the penalty area left defender Friedrich with a tap-in for his first ever international goal. Klose finished the scoring in the final minutes with a clinical volley. He is now one goal behind the all-time World Cup scoring record.
