A new theme park will open in Osaka, Japan. Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is going to build a new attraction called Nintendoland. It will be full of rides based on Nintendo's favourite characters. A USJ spokesperson said Nintendoland would be ready in 2020. It is scheduled to open in time for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The new park will cost $351 million to build, which is nearly $100 million more than it cost to make the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Nintendo said the new park would, "include major attractions…and feature Nintendo's most famous characters and games". It added that: "More details will be announced in the future."

Nintendo has not said any more about which of its brands will be part of Nintendoland. Many fans predict that they will get to interact with their favourite characters, like Mario and Luigi, Link and Zelda, and Pokemon. Fans also hope the new rides will be for people of all ages, from toddlers to pensioners. Osaka resident Mika Hashimoto said: "I'm so excited that this theme park will be built." She said many other characters (such as Harry Potter, Mickey Mouse and Hello Kitty) had a theme park, so it was good that people could have the chance to go to a Nintendo attraction. She added: "It is about time fans of Nintendo had a place to go and have fun. I can't wait for Nintendoland to open."
