The 17-year-old girls' rights activist Malala Yousafzai has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2014. She was one two Nobel laureates to be declared winners this year. The other is Kailash Satyarthi, who campaigns children's rights. Malala was given the accolade exactly two years and a day a Taliban gunman shot her the head her school bus. Following her recovery a British hospital, Malala has toured the world speaking for the rights for girls to receive an education. She once told reporters that going to school, "is like walking a magic door your dreams". Malala becomes the youngest ever recipient the prize and the second Pakistani to scoop the award.

The Nobel Committee said Ms Yousafzai and Mr Satyarthi won the prize, " their struggle the suppression children and young people, and the right of all children education." Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated Malala, calling her the "pride Pakistan". He said: "She has made her countrymen proud. Her achievement is unparalleled and unequalled." He urged all children to follow her lead. Mr Satyarthi told Al Jazeera that his award was the, "many voices children who are victims servitude… the world". He added: "The Nobel Committee regards it as an important point a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education."
