The Reading / Listening - Level 0

There is not enough food in Venezuela's shops. People panic and buy too much. There will be a new system so people can't buy too much. Stores will scan customers' fingerprints. Everyone will get an equal share of food. The new system might start in January. People do not know how much food they can buy.

There are many reasons for the food shortages. Smugglers buy cheap food and resell it for four times the original price. The government controls food prices so food companies cannot make money. Finally, Venezuela's currency is weak, so imported food is expensive. The economy must change.
