The Reading / Listening - Level 1

The biggest reason why U.K. children go to hospital is bad teeth. Up to 500 children a week go to hospital because of fruit juice, soda and poor dental hygiene. Over 25,000 children had teeth removed last year. Some children had all 20 of their milk teeth removed because of tooth decay. Most kids had four to eight teeth removed. Sugary drinks and fruit juices also lead to higher levels of obesity in kids.

The number of very young children having teeth pulled out increased a lot last year. A children's dentist said one reason for this is very painful teeth. Another reason is that the tooth becomes too bad. A final reason is the child has many decayed teeth. The children need an injection. This puts them to sleep so they can have an operation. Parents should give children water and not fruit juice or soda.
