The Reading / Listening - Level 1

Younger people have never seen or played a real record – what music was on before CDs and MP3s. People are wrong to think companies no longer make or sell records. They are making a comeback. A special day called Record Store Day is helping record stores around the world. This year it was on April 19. The record industry said record sales doubled last year. Sales are up again this year. Demand for vinyl records is the highest in nearly two decades.

Record Store Day started in 2007. It is a day for music fans to celebrate the record. It helps shops sell their records throughout the year. This year was the best ever. Sales went up by 133 per cent on the week before. Vinyl is popular with older people. However, younger people now like the shape and packaging of the record. It is an important part of music history and culture. People are happy that the vinyl record has survived the digital revolution.
