The Reading / Listening - Level 4

Armed police in London will soon wear body cameras. This will make what happened clearer when police shoot people. It comes after the death of a 29-year-old Londoner in 2011. Officers said they were trying to arrest the man, who they thought was planning an attack. They said he had a gun. The killing led to riots across the U.K. The man's family said he was unlawfully killed. A public investigation recently decided that the killing was lawful.

London police hope the cameras will make people believe their story in the future. The police pointed out that it was rare for London officers to open fire. Normal police officers in the streets do not carry guns. Between 2010 and 2012, there were 12,721 times when armed police went to possible crime scenes. Shots were fired just four times. A senior officer said: "These are professional officers who want to be believed and want the public to trust them."
