The Reading / Listening - Level 4

The under-pressure mayor of Toronto Rob Ford has admitted smoking crack cocaine when he was drunk. For many months, he said he hadn't smoked cocaine. Fighting back the tears, he apologised to Toronto citizens. He said he had let them down. He said he wasn't a drug addict or an alcoholic. Toronto's police had a video of him smoking the drug. The story was on TV since May. Ford had continually said it was untrue.

People want Ford to resign but he said he would stay in office. He will also fight for a second term in office at the next election. He said he would continue doing the job he was elected to do. He added: "I know I have to regain your trust and confidence." At a press conference, he said: "I have nothing left to hide. I would do absolutely anything to change the past, but the past is the past." He made it "crystal clear" he would never do such a thing again.
