The Reading / Listening - Level 1

Hakimullah Mehsud, the leader of Pakistan's Taliban, died in a drone attack on Friday. He was the most wanted man in Pakistan. Three others also died. The U.S. offered $5 million for information about where Mr Mehsud lived. The U.S. wanted him for attacking one of its bases in 2009. Seven Americans and a Jordanian died. Pakistan told America that it "strongly condemns" the drone strike. The Taliban said it was sad that Mehsud was killed in the drone attack.

Hakimullah Mehsud became leader of Pakistan's Taliban in 2009. He soon planned many terror attacks. In 2010, he was behind five attacks in one day in three Pakistani cities. Five days later, there were three attacks in Lahore. The U.S. says he was also behind a planned attack in New York. It also says Mehsud's death is very bad for the Taliban. It might also be bad for peace talks in Pakistan. The government and the Taliban were in talks for many months.
