U.K. sending warships to Gibraltar (12th August, 2013)

Britain is sending ten warships to Gibraltar. The ships are going to the Middle East. People think this is bad because relations between Britain and Spain aren't so good. Spain got angry after Gibraltar put concrete blocks in the sea to stop Spanish boats fishing. Spain said it might start charging 50 euros to cross its border with Gibraltar. Tensions increased after Spain started terrorism searches at the border. People waited for six hours to cross the border.

Spain gave Gibraltar to Britain in 1713. It is important for Britain's navy. Gibraltar is just 6.8 square kilometers. It is south of Cadiz. The 430-meter-tall Rock of Gibraltar is in the center. Most of Gibraltar's 30,000 people feel British. A lot of Gibraltar looks like Britain. Spain wants Gibraltar back. Britain said this could happen if Gibraltar's people voted for it. The British leader told the Spanish leader that this issue created bad relations between their countries.
