French authorities have war on the English word “hashtag” in its drive to its language as free as possible from English loan words. France’s government a special department that the purity of its language and recommendations regarding outside influences. The General Commission for Terminology and Neologisms has that “hashtag” will no longer be in government documents and public statements. Instead, it will the new, French term “mot-dièse,” which is as “sharp word”. The Commission also users of social media, especially people on Twitter, to use the new word.
